There are quite literally millions of apps that you can download for free, all serving unique purposes and improving our day-to-day lives tremendously.
In this article, we’ll review the most popular free apps on Google Play. Because there are many different types of apps, such as finance or banking apps, or social media apps like Instagram or Reddit, we’ll cover just one app from each category.
- Productivity – Google One
Google One is an extremely popular app among Android users, with over 1 billion downloads. The app is great for those who don’t have a lot of storage in their phone as they offer cloud services where you can save up to 15 GB of data securely using your Google account.
If you aren’t currently saving your images and videos to a cloud, then we recommend Google One as an easy way to secure your data against losing it forever by breaking or losing your phone.

- Social – TikTok
Another app with over 1 billion downloads, TikTok is a hugely popular app that has become a staple of social media for younger generations. The video sharing app is very easy to use, as all you have to do is swipe to view a new random video that is tailored to your interests.
- Entertainment – Max
HBO Max’s rebranded streaming service has become an instant success as the app has received over 10 million downloads in just a few months of launching. On Max, you will be able to stream fan favorites such as the Harry Potter movies, DC Universe, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and more titles. Additionally, you will be able to stream their HBO series like Game of Thrones.
The catch however is while the app is free to download, using it is not. You will need to pay $10/month for streaming with ads, or $16 if you want ad-free content. Oh, and if you want 4k support, you’ll be paying $20/month for Max.

- Music & Audio – Pandora
Pandora offers free streaming services with ads, and two simple subscription plans for users to choose from.
The Pandora Plus plan is $5/month, and offers ad-free personalized stations, unlimited song selection, podcasts, unlimited skips, and offline listening.
Pandora Premium is $10 a month, offers ad-free personalized music, unlimited song selections, podcasts, unlimited skips, unlimited offline listening, and the ability to make and share playlists.
There are a few key differences between the two plans that aren’t that obvious when reading over the features of both plans at first. For starters, the Pandora Plus plan only has no ads when you are listening to their music stations. If you want to play an album or song that you select, it’s going to play ads. Additionally, there is not unlimited offline listening for Pandora Plus users.
